Otherwise please enter N/A (required) Subject Your Message I am writing in response to the devastating news that the UK Government has refused to negotiate a reciprocal social security agreement with Canada; this is a huge insult to the hundreds and thousands of British citizens who have paid their dues, often serving our country as veterans, civil servants, mothers, fathers and carers, only to be repaid with a frozen state pension. I believe that all UK pensioners deserve a full uprated pension no matter where they happen to live. In the current system, 4% of UK state pensions decrease in real value year-on-year, with pensioners left to face poverty and financial hardship in old age and ill-health. It is utterly shameful for our Government to turn its back on our own citizens in this cruel and immoral way. The request from the Canadian Government for a reciprocal social security agreement was a welcome opportunity to end frozen pensions for 150,000 UK citizens in Canada, and a first step to end this injustice for all. Canada is a Commonwealth nation with close cultural and historic connections with the UK and the Canadian Government already uprates the pensions of Canadian citizens residing in the UK. By refusing to negotiate an agreement, the UK Government has continued to wilfully neglect the welfare of citizens overseas. I do not support the existence of an immoral two-tier system for UK pensioners based on where they live in old age. If no discussions were held with Canada, why not? And if the UK Government will not engage with an opportunity to form a new reciprocal agreement, are our overseas citizens destined to suffer from frozen pensions indefinitely? Yours sincerely, Can we stay in touch? 10 By sending this message you agree to emailing the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions on behalf of the End Frozen Pensions campaign as well as signing our petition.
