Broken Faith

Veterans and Frozen Pensions

As we commemorate VE Day and remember the sacrifices made by so many, we have produced a new book ‘Broken Faith, Britain’s Forgotten Heroes’ which tells the stories of some of the estimated 60,000 military veterans who are amongst the 510,000 UK State Pensioners who have their pensions frozen as a result of where they choose to live in later life.

Amongst that number is 97 year-old Inez Minc, who served as nurse during World War Two in France and Germany. Inez felt honoured to be one of the nurses who tended Field Marshall Montgomery. Inez, who has recently been diagnosed as going blind receives a UK state pension of just £40 a week. The number also includes 95-year-old Robert Haley, who served on the artic convoys, who receives just £46 a week, 98-year-old Peggy Buchanan who served at Bletchley Park and 95-year-old Anne Puckridge who served in all three-armed forces during World War Two and worked in the UK into her seventies before going to live in Canada to be near her daughter.
